Reviewers Call New Book with Quirky Language an "Essential Read" and "Just What You Need"

September 24, 2008

PHILADELPHIA -- Caroline Geck, a book reviewer for Library Journal (the oldest and most respected publication covering the library field and considered to be the “bible” of the library world) has reviewed a new book by CJ Rhoads "The Entrepreneur's Guide to Managing Information Technology" by Praeger Publishers (2008).  Rhoads is the CEO of consulting firm ETM Associates, Inc., an Associate Professor at Kutztown University's College of Business, an avid researcher, and a sought-after speaker.

Geck stated that Rhoads uses stories from her experiences and quirky language such as "pounce like a panther," and the "bleeding edge" to stress the importance of executives continually reexamining their Information Technology strategies.  Geck noted that the book provides practical guidance and methods to minimize risks and maximize benefits, and calls it an "essential read for business professionals at all levels", even promoting it as a textbook alternative in an academic business program.

The sentiment was reiterated by Angelo Bristow who reviewed the book for Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal.  Bristow noted that entrepreneurs can "skip the nervous breakdown" caused by the struggle with information technology problems by reading this book.  She describes the book chapter by chapter, echoing some of the advice such as the five keys to overcoming resistance to new technology and how to figure out the optimum time to invest in new technology. She summarizes by stating that "If you're a business owner or manager who has become painfully aware of how little you know about information technology, this book may be just what you need to unravel that technology knot."

"Managing Information Technology" is the latest in the "The Entrepreneur's Guide to..."  series designed to help business owners succeed in building their organizations.  Jeff Olson, the acquisition editor at Praeger had the idea for the series a few years ago. He describes the purpose; "We wanted to provide a complete library of resources that will guide entrepreneurs and small/family business owners through all of the facets of their business, with in-depth information presented in an accessible and user-friendly format".  To date there are three other books in the series; "The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Managing Growth and Handling Crises" by Theo J. van Dijk, "The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Writing Business Plans and Proposals" by K. Dennis Chambers, and "The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Hiring and Building the Team" by Ken Tanner.  The next two books to be released will be "The Entrepreneur's Guide to Successful Leadership" by Dan Goldberg and Don Martin, and "The Entrepreneur's Guide to Marketing" by Robert F. Everett.
