Local Consultant Honored by International Consulting Organization

January 20, 2005

BERKS COUNTY, PA - Dr. Chris J. Rhoads has been named the Consultant of the Month for January by the Society of Advancement of Consulting (SAC). Rhoads, known by her nickname "CJ", began doing consulting in the Berks County area in 1986 when she started Computer Educational Services. Although she left the area for a few years to serve as Vice President of MBNA and First USA, she returned in 2001 and began consulting again - this time for Enterprise Technology Management (ETM) Associates, Inc.

Alan Weiss, PhD, CEO and Founder of SAC (Society for Advancement of Consulting) explained the reasoning behind the choice: "CJ Rhoads was named January 2005's Consultant of the month by SAC due to the excellence of her work and the credentials she brings with her. It's a pleasure to have her join the ranks of some of the most elite consultants in the world."

The Society for Advancement of Consulting, LLC is a community of colleagues without rank or hierarchical politics, whose members learn from each other on a continuing basis, augmented and supported by a lean national organization.

The entry requirements for membership in SAC are stringent. Rhoads commented on process in meeting them. "It wasn't tough to get all the testimonial letters since my clients were happy to write them, but it was time consuming. Also, I wasn't sure I would qualify. My situation was a little strange." Rhoads explained that an applicant is required to have ten years as a consultant, with a minimum of $75,000 a year in billings for the most recent four years in a row. Rhoads noted, "I started consulting 16 years before applying, but seven years of my career might not have counted because I was an executive for a Fortune 500 company, not an independent consultant." Rhoads successfully argued that though she was an employee, her role was that of an internal consultant, advising the top decision-makers of those companies.

Additionally, her 2003 consulting billings didn't meet the criteria due to a devastating car accident in November 2002. Rhoads noted that it took her over a year to recuperate enough from her injuries to work full time again, and that there are still some ongoing impairments from which she is still mending. "Getting this honor is kind of a double celebration for me - It shows that I can be successful regardless. I'm now fully meeting the criteria for SAC membership."
